Your first visit

What to expect when you come in

No guesswork and no rushing. Your first session is about understanding the problem properly and getting you started on the right plan.

  1. 1

    We listen

We start by talking through your pain, your history, your daily routine and what you want to get back to.

  2. 2

    We assess

We look at how you move, test your strength and flexibility, and pinpoint what's driving the problem.

  3. 3

    We treat

Most first sessions include hands-on treatment, so you leave with relief as well as answers.

  4. 4

    We plan

You'll leave knowing what's wrong, how we'll fix it, roughly how long it should take and what to do at home.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. In South Africa you can book directly with a physiotherapist. Some medical aid plans ask for a doctor's referral before they pay certain benefits, so it's worth checking with your scheme.

Can I claim from my medical aid?

Many medical aid plans cover physiotherapy, depending on your scheme and option. Tell us which medical aid you're on when you book and we'll explain how payment works for your plan.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable you can move in. If we're treating your knee or hip, shorts are ideal. For your shoulder, neck or back, a vest or loose top works well.

What should I bring to my first session?

Any scans, X-ray reports, surgical notes or doctor's letters related to the problem, a list of any medication you take, and your medical aid details.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the problem, how long you've had it and your goals. After your assessment you'll get an honest estimate, which we review as you progress. The aim is always to get you independent, not to keep you coming back.

Does physiotherapy hurt?

Some techniques can feel uncomfortable while we work on stiff or sore areas, but treatment should never be more than you can manage. We explain what we're doing as we go and adjust to how you feel.
